Group Insurance

Group Insurance is generally provided by employers who pay a portion of the premium on behalf of the employee. (50% minimum or 100%). In general, group insurance is more expensive than individual insurance because the insurance company must accept all of the employees into the plan who want to participate. Consequently, some of the employees my not be healthy and present a greater risk to the insurance company. The advantage to the employee is that the cost of the insurance is partially paid for by the company. The disadvantage is that if the employee becomes uninsurable while participating in the group plan, they are forced to work for the same company, or find employment in another company that offers health care benefits. They are no longer in control of their own situation.
